Southern island – Horse Riding
Today we ride, swim, eat and learn about farming in the most fertile area of the island. We start from Dimitris’ ranch, for an experience to remember, riding beautiful horses in the mountain and on the beach. After our ride, we remove the saddles from the horses, and in swimwear, we enter the water on horseback. An unforgettable experience. We continue a little more to the south and reach a beautiful beach bar where we will swim in the clear blue waters of south Rhodes. Exceptional cocktails and juices are available at the bar. In the afternoon we visit Arnitha where under the tall plane trees Andreas is waiting for us with food made of local produce. You will love the simplicity of local cuisine. At the end of the day, a local farmer will help us collect fruit and maybe make our own cocktail overlooking the village lake.
Eastern island – Scuba Diving
This day offers a special experience which everyone should try. In case it is your first scuba dive you shouldn’t worry. Professional trainers will help you spend precious underwater time. It is safe even for young children (at least 10 years old). If you are an experienced diver, let us organize a special dive for you.
We reach the eastern part of the island and after a short dive theory lesson and an explanation on how to use scuba equipment underwater, we get ready for a unique dive. The duration is 30 mins for beginners and 45 mins for the experienced divers. We have small groups so extra attention is paid to everyone.
In the meantime, the members of our team prepare a BBQ for lunch in the diving center. While enjoying delicious char-grilled dishes and fresh salads you can tell us everything about your scuba diving experience. After a short time of relaxation we visit Lindos, where you are free to stroll in the village.
Next we head north to walk in the orange tree valley which ends to a beautiful location with water streams and plane trees. The day ends with a visit to the ‘Association for the protection and safeguard of the small horse (pony) of Rhodes’ where you can see the Rhodian Horse, in danger of extinction.
*You shouldn’t have a big breakfast before diving and you shouldn’t consume alcohol the night before.
Central island – Cycling & Nature
You will get to know the special beauty of mountainous Rhodes, an area you might not have the chance to visit otherwise. It is an easy tour, for any age group. Starting our day with the bikes we cross a forest of pine, cypress trees and yews and we arrive in a beautiful lake with different kinds of birds. We snack and chat after a stroll around the lake to look for and collect a variety of herbs of the area.
Next, we head to Agios Isidoros, a mountainous village, where Petros and his family are expecting us at their wonderful balcony with a view to the central island mountains. Here we taste the local cuisine. All food and wine are produced in the village. In the afternoon, we visit the Monolithos castle (14th century) with the magical view and enjoy a swim in the beach under the castle away from the crowded summer beaches.
Northern island – Hiking & Cycling
This tour combines hiking and cycling into forests one couldn’t expect to find on an island such as Rhodes. Almost everyone can follow. We start by hiking along the lush vegetation river path in Petaloudes with orange trees, plane trees and maple trees. At the end of the trail we stop and have a ‘melekouni’ (a local sesame and honey sweet). The next trail is in a forest of oak trees, yews and cypress trees. We reach a chapel with a panoramic view to the west side of the island. Here we have some fruit and get ready to go on an enjoyable descent with our bikes through a thick forest of pines.
Our final stop is at another chapel to have a picnic in the forest, with food and nibbles we have made ourselves and some of our friends for our guests. The day ends in the famous and beautiful beach of Panagia Tsampika.
Western island – Hiking & Nature
On the western shore we will meet perhaps the wildest part of the island. A full day is ahead for both young and old who will enjoy the beauty of the area. We go to Kritinia where in our first stop we can see the medieval castle of the village. We get to the castle through a pine forest where we will look for and collect a variety of herbs of the area. A little after 1.5 hours we will have a break to make our own tea with the herbs we collected, and eat fruit and some local snacks. One more hour on a magical path until the castle, where Antonis is expecting us along with coffee, something to eat and some of the secrets of the Castle! We are now ready to swim in a small beach of wild beauty.
After so much hiking, biking and swimming comes a delicious dinner. Giorgos is expecting us back at the village where he prepares the really simple Greek cuisine from local products. From his tavern the view to the sea and the castle is rewarding. After all this eating and drinking, join us for a visit to the nearby village of Emponas, were we will taste local wine in the local winery – distillery.
After breakfast, we will transfer you to the airport for your flight departure.
Please note: day tours may be substituted and the order changed depending on weather and guests' capabilities.
I went to Rhodes looking for adventure but found much more than that. Rhodes has so much history and many beautiful places not usually seen by most visitors. My guides knew just where to take me to give me the most fabulous experience. I can't say enough about the friendship, knowledge of Rhodes and what lengths my principal guides, Savvas and Giorgos went to ensure my stay was memorable. These guys took me to places (gems) where the tour groups never go. I was able to stay longer and see more and they accommodated my every wish, and when they saw my interests, offered suggestions to improve my stay. In other words I had a tailor-made holiday and "slow tour". Thanks to Savvas and Giorgos I have memories for life of; eating at tables where the locals go, savouring authentic Greek home-cooking, visiting tourist free villages, walking through forests and encountering views unknown to others, riding a beautiful horse bare back into the sea and staying in a magnificent 1929 quintessential Italian chalet. Thanks to Slow Tours for arranging my stay. Andy Mount Barker
