Luxembourg is a small country surrounded by France, Germany and Belgium. It is mostly rural, with dense Ardennes forest and nature parks in the north, rocky gorges of the Mullerthal region in the east and the Moselle river valley in the southeast. Its capital, Luxembourg City, is famed for its fortified medieval old town perched on sheer cliffs, also the city centre palace of the Grand Duke.
The Moselle river is a quieter, more peaceful river than the Danube and Rhine, and an ideal place for a bike & barge tour, a walking tour or cycling tour along the river's tracks. The city can be easily explored on foot and a visit to see the guards outside the Grand duke's palace is a regular visit for tourists.
The fortified medieval old town is remarkably constructed on sheer cliffs, with a large bridge giving magnificent views over the gorge beneath. Forest walks are not far away, and bike tracks are in excellent condition for the enjoyment of both locals and tourists.
