8-day River Cruising Tour of Holland
Experience the beauty of The Netherlands. This Holland Culture Cruise is an intimate tour of the Dutch provinces of North Holland, South Holland, and Utrecht. Gain a new found respect and understanding of Dutch culture through the art museums, churches, ancient towns, markets and landmarks that make up the lowlands.
Whether by ship, bus, canal boat, bike or foot, this tour traverses the “green heart” of Holland starting at The Rijksmuseum and winding its way past Saint Bavo’s Cathedral in Haarlem, Rembrandt’s home in Leiden, the 14th century town of Vianen, the “Old and new” churches of Delft and the picturesque town of Gouda to name but a few attractions you’ll experience.
All the while you’ll be wined, dined, entertained and informed by a 1st class crew and expert tour guides as you come to know the true essence of Holland, it’s people, culture and cuisine.
Good to know
The planned itinerary is subject to change due to nautical, technical or meteorological reasons and other unforeseen circumstances. If there is low or high water and a route cannot be shipped, the captain reserves the right to change the route in view of your safety (this cannot be accepted as a reason for free withdrawal).
In case you prefer a day of rest, you can skip the day tour and relax on board while cruising to the next town. On the arrival day it is possible to bring your luggage on board from 11 a.m.

Afternoon arrival on board.
Welcome by and introduction to the crew and your tour guide. Then plunge into Amsterdam right away by public transport. It takes you to the stunning Rijksmuseum of Dutch art and history, where a knowledgeable local guide will show you some of its absolute highlights. At the end of the afternoon, a trip by canal boat gives you the special pleasure of seeing the city from the water. Return to the ship for a bubbly welcome drink, followed by the first dinner aboard. A presentation of the tours itinerary, which will most likely whet your appetite for the cruise to come even more.
DUTCH PAINTERS DAY • AMSTERDAM - HAARLEM
While you’re having a leisurely breakfast, the ship sails to Haarlem. On board a lecture makes you much more knowledgeable on Dutch painters, with specific attention to the works of Frans Hals. lunch on board you’ll take a city walk in Haarlem, sometimes lovingly nicknamed little Amsterdam. Visit to the grand and huge Saint Bavo church and a demonstration of the sound of its famous organ, followed by a guided visit to the Frans Hals museum. Dinner aboard the ship and port talk about Dutch water management
HAARLEM - CRUQUIUS – LEIDEN - UTRECHT – VIANEN
By bus to the Cruquius museum of water management that tells the story of the age-old Dutch battle against the water. Subsequently, the bus takes you to Leiden center, birthplace of painter Rembrandt and home to the oldest university of the Netherlands. After a lunch on your own, a guide takes you on a walk through the historic center. You can rest your feet in the bus while it rides you through the ‘Green heart’ of Holland. The barge awaits you in Utrecht, and from there you’ll sail to the port just outside the fourteenth century fortified town of Vianen.Dinner on board
VIANEN - THE HAGUE – DELFT - ROTTERDAM
From Vianen, our bus departs for The Hague. A walking tour of the inner city brings you to the beautiful museum villa The Mauritshuis where you can, among others, see Vermeer’s Girl with a pearl earring. Lunch on your own. In this bustling part of The Hague, your only problem is which restaurant to choose. The bus takes you to Delft. The first stop is at the beautiful Old and New church. The latter’s crypt is the final resting place of much of Dutch royalty. From there, you will walk to the Candelaer, a small factory that hand produces the famous Delft Blue pottery. The bus then brings you to Rotterdam, where the ship is docked. One look at the city’s skyline and you’ll understand why Rotterdam is proudly called Manhattan on the (river) Maas.Dinner on board, topped off with a thrilling thirty minute harbor tour by water taxi.
WINDMILLS AND CHEESE DAY • ROTTERDAM - KINDERDIJK - GOUDA
The ship brings you to the village of Kinderdijk for an extensive visit to nineteen beautiful windmills, constructed in the 18th century to pump water out of the surrounding lowlands. While you’re enjoying a sailing lunch, the ship continues today’s journey to Gouda. Explore the pretty town of Gouda, whose name has become synonymous with cheese, on foot or by bike. Of course a cheese tasting is part of this excursion.Dinner on your own.
GOUDA DAY • GOUDA – OUDE WETERING
Visit Gouda’s Market square, where farmers from the area still trade their cheeses during the weekly Thursday market from April through August. A guide shows you around the 123 majestic meters long Saint Jan’s church with its 72 stained glass windows, depicting many biblical and historical scenes.While you’re having lunch, followed by a lecture on Dutch products, flowers, cheese and horticulture, the ship brings you to the town of Alphen aan den Rijn. Here you can either stay on the ship that’s sailing to Oudewetering, or you can continue your journey the Dutch way and ride the twenty kilometers distance on a bicycle (highly recommended!).Dinner on board.
FLOWER AUCTION DAY • OUDE WETERING – AMSTERDAM
After an early small breakfast, a bus takes you to the world’s biggest flower auction in the town of Aalsmeer. Here, in the wee morning hours of every workday, millions of flowers are auctioned off and immediately afterwards sent off to all parts of the world. On returning to the ship, you can enjoy a second breakfast while sailing to Amsterdam. Once docked in the Dutch capital, a small lunch gives you the energy for the walk to “THIS IS HOLLAND”. Using the latest technology, THIS IS HOLLAND lets you experience in the middle of Amsterdam what it’s like to fly across the country. Including the feeling of wind in your hair, moist fog and typical odors. When your flight is over, you can spend your time any way you wish. Evening farewell dinner on the boat.
