Soggiorno in Tuscany 

If the idea of a prolonged stay in Tuscany for no less than 2 weeks appeals to you, then this is the tour that you’ve been looking for. Referred to as a Soggiorno in Italian, our 14 day tour is as exciting as it is authentic. You’ll have the option to visit local landmarks, explore stunning surroundings, immerse yourself in the Tuscan lifestyle – and that’s just after a few days of being here! You’ll get to explore iconic scenery, traverse vineyards, partake in wine tasting, learn how to prepare and cook an authentic 4 course meal and much, much more in between. With a variety of towns, including Cortona, just a short journey from your accommodation; you’ll have plenty to see and do. Every day, you’ll have the opportunity to eat freshly produced food, drink locally made wine, listen to traditional music, learn about the unique way of life and even meet with local crafts-people that have been plying their trade for decades.

Accomodation:

The accommodations are nearby the historical centre of Cortona and set on wonderful grounds which include a swimming pool. The apartments within the villa comprise one/two/three bedrooms, living area, kitchen, bathroom and laundry facilities, comprising air-conditioning and WI-FI. Located in the valley approximately 10km from the historical centre of Cortona, the accommodations, which are restored Tuscan farmhouses with old world rustic charm, become home base for the duration of the tour, allowing the traveller to settle into their own private apartment and commence their Tuscan experience.

  • Any meals outside of those listed within the itinerary

Notes: 

  • Check In is from 3:30pm / Check out is at 9am
  • Departures are on Saturday. Please enquire for private bookings
  • Walking is part of the tour itinerary and although there may be stairs to climb and walking over cobble stoned streets is common, the walking is quite leisurely and you are able to stop and take a break if required.
  • The food is typically Italian; all the meals provided are from a-la-carte menus which have ample varied selection
  • Group size is 8 maximum

Arrival/ Departure: 

  • The tour begins near the historical centre of Cortona. Upon arrival we will meet you at our local train station Camucia-Cortona and will transfer you, via vehicle to the villa, which is a short drive into the countryside.
  • Cortona is located 2.5 hours by regional train from the main train station in Rome (Roma Termini) and 1.5 hours by regional train from the main train station in Florence (Santa Maria Novella).
  • There will be a transfer from Camucia-Cortona train station at 3:30pm. Transfers outside of these hours will be at an additional cost of €50.
  • There will be transfers to Camucia-Cortona train station at 8am & 9am. Transfers outside of these hours will be at an additional cost of €50. 
  • If you are already in Italy connection to either Roma Termini or Firenze Santa Maria Novella train stations is easily accessible via other train stations.
  • Either of these two major cities are a good option for your arrival into Italy and then travel to our location. We will meet you at our local train station Camucia-Cortona and will transfer you, via vehicle to the villa, which is a short drive into the countryside.

Arrival from Rome Airport:

  1. Take the Leonardo Express Train from Rome Airport to Roma Termini Train Station (This is a 30min journey and will cost approximately 15 Euro)
  2. From there take a regional train to Camucia-Cortona (This is a 2.5hr journey and will cost approximately 15 Euro)

Arrival from Florence Airport:

  1. Take the bus that goes to Firenze Santa Maria Novella Train Station (This takes approximately 30mins and will cost approximately 15 Euro)
  2. From there take a regional train to Camucia-Cortona (This is a 1.5hr journey and will cost approximately 13 Euro)

  • Day 1

    Arrival

    We transfer you from our local train station to your accommodation and allow you to settle in and familiarise yourself with your new surroundings which will be ‘home’ for the next 14 days. Dinner in Cortona.

  • Day 2

    CORTONA

    This morning we drive past ‘Bramasole’ from ‘Under the Tuscan Sun’ and visit Chiesa di Santa Margherita. We then make our way to the historical centre for a Caffè and brioche after which you have free time to enjoy the many boutiques, art galleries and all Cortona offers. We will regroup and enjoy lunch at a typical trattoria. Later in the afternoon there will be the option to return to the villa for some relaxation prior to stepping out to dinner. Dinner in Cortona

  • Day 3

    SAN GIMIGNANO & SIENA

    We visit San Gimignano for the morning. This township houses many stores which offer a very broad range of painted ceramics as well as leatherware and alabaster. After our Caffè the morning will be yours to explore this city, two wonderful piazzas, visit a museum, climb a tower for a breathtaking view of the Val d’Elsa or enjoy a delicious gelato. At 1pm we will travel to Siena. You will have the afternoon to explore Siena, a visit to the spectacular Piazza del Campo, or visit Il Duomo, The Mangia Tower or simply troll the streets and enjoy the ambience and the various delights Siena offers, from the little food stores with many tempting treats to the beautiful selection of stores/boutiques.   • Day 4

    TOUR FREE DAY

    You may choose to ‘stay in’ enjoy the grounds and relax, visit Cortona or another local township. Alternatively, you may choose from one of our additional activities: Vespa tour, cycling tour, cooking experience, cheese making class, gelato making class, painting class, hot air ballooning. Dinner in Cortona.

  • Day 5

    FLORENCE

    Independent train travel to Florence (8:12am train departure – arrive into Florence 9:30am) train tickets, map, and transfer to and from our local train station on the day is included. Should you wish to visit any galleries/monuments, pre-purchase of tickets should be arranged prior to your tour commencement to avoid long waiting periods upon your arrival. Visit www.tickitaly.com to familiarise yourself with the various monuments in Florence. This evening dinner will be at the villa by the pool.

  • Day 6

    CHIANTI

    A leisurely day of taking in the most amazing views, whilst driving through this most famous wine growing area of Tuscany. During the morning, we will visit the village of Castellina, we will enjoy a Caffè together after which you will enjoy free time to explore this village which offers a selection of varied stores. We will then visit a vineyard a short distance away, interact with the winemakers and savour lunch and a wine tasting whilst enjoying spectacular views of the vineyards and olive groves. Return to villa late afternoon. Dinner in Cortona.

  • Day 7

    CHEESE MAKING

    To truly ingratiate yourself in the Tuscan lifestyle today will be dedicated to the making of Pecorino sheep milk cheese. Departure will be 10am to a local farm a short drive from the villa. You will learn and participate in the cheese making process and then enjoy a delicious lunch of typical delicacies, including wine. Dinner in Cortona.

  • Day 8

    AREZZO

    Independent train travel to Arezzo (9:15am train departure) train ticket, maps, and transfer to and from our local train station on the day is included in the tour cost. Dinner in Cortona.

  • Day 9

    PIENZA & MONTEPULCIANO

    This morning we travel through the Val D’Orcia a UNESCO world heritage valley. Our first stop is Pienza, the birthplace of Pope Pius II, a small township famous for Pecorino cheese and beautiful boutiques. We will enjoy a Caffè together and you will have the opportunity to explore independently. At midday we regroup and travel to Montepulciano where we will have lunch and wine tasting in a local underground cellar within the historical centre. You will have the opportunity to visit this wonderful city during the course of the afternoon. Dinner in Cortona.

  • Day 10

    TOUR FREE DAY

    You may choose to ‘stay in’ enjoy the grounds and relax, visit Cortona or another local township. Alternatively, you may choose from one of our additional activities: Vespa tour, cycling tour, cooking experience, cheese making class, gelato making class, painting class, hot air ballooning. Dinner in Cortona.

  • Day 11

    COOKING CLASS

    Hands-on Cooking Experience. Depart mid-morning for the short drive into the valley to a local farmhouse. The experience will involve hands-on preparation of various dishes including pasta, main course, side dishes, dessert. Meal is then enjoyed together with the Chef, accompanied by local wine, dessert and sweet wine

  • Day 12

    ORVIETO

    This morning we drive through Umbria to Orvieto. On arrival we enjoy a Caffè after which there is ample opportunity to visit Il Duomo, Saint Patricks Well – 1537 which is 62 metres deep with double spiral staircase or tour the underground city/ caves. Orvieto has a great selection of stores, ranging from leatherware to ceramics and boutiques. Regroup for lunch at a local trattoria. Return to villa late afternoon before stepping out to dinner in Cortona.

  • Day 13

    LUCIGNANO

    This morning we visit Lucignano, elliptical in shape, it is known as the ‘pearl of Val di Chiana’. We enjoy a Caffè after which you will free time to visit the local market and the village. We will regroup for a lovely lunch at a trattoria and make our way back to the villa early afternoon. Dinner in Cortona.

  • Day 14

    TOUR FREE DAY

    You may choose to ‘stay in’ enjoy the grounds and relax, visit Cortona or another local township. Alternatively, you may choose from one of our additional activities: Vespa tour, cycling tour, cooking experience, cheese making class, gelato making class, painting class, hot air ballooning.     DEPARTURE

    After a leisurely breakfast, we transfer you to the local train station for your departure
