Pleasure Cycling on the Rhine River, Koblenz - Mainz (Self-Guided)

Your voyage through the most beautiful wine-growing areas along the Rhine River begins in Koblenz. From this city, located on the meeting point of the Rhine and Moselle rivers, and surrounded by majestic vineyards and mystic castle ruins, your floating hotel sets sail for Mainz. On board the ship as well as on your bike tours, you pass through the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Middle Rhine Valley with its picturesque small towns, coloured half-timbered gable buildings and legendary castles. Short cycle tours through the idyllic landscape and plenty of time to discover each town, make this journey a special event for beginners and for people who enjoy pleasure.

Tour Character: Level 1 Easy

Most of the stretches are paved or asphalted, and lead alongside the Rhine dikes without any gradients of note. Nearly all cycle tours can be classified as being easy.

Accomodation: 

A stylish and welcoming atmosphere awaits you on board. Elegantly furnished cabins and inviting public areas create a pleasant and relaxed setting. Spacious panoramic lounge areas with bar and restaurant add to the ship’s special charm. On the large sun deck, comfortable seating invites you to unwind while enjoying beautiful views of the passing scenery, while also providing space to store bicycles.

Cabins 56 outside cabins, comfortable and tastefully furnished, equipped with shower/WC, hairdryer, TV, individually adjustable air conditioning and safe.

Upper Deck: 23x 2-bed-cabins (approx. 11 m²) and 2 mini-suites (approx. 11 m²) with additional seating. All cabins feature french balconies (floor-to-ceiling windows that can be opened).

Main Deck: 28x 2-bed-cabins (approx. 11 m²), 2x 1-bed-cabin (approx. 11 m²), and 2 mini-suites (approx. 11 m²) with additional seating. Cabins have panoramic windows (upper section can be opened). In some cabins at the front of the ship (category Eco), engine and generator noise may be noticeable.

Included in the tour: 

  • Seven nights in outside cabins with private facilities in the booked cabin category
  • All charges for harbours, bridges and locks
  • Room cleaning every day, changing of towels and bed cloths as necessary
  • Welcome-Drink
  • Full board consisting of 7x breakfast, 6x lunch package for cycle tours or snack on board (non-cyclists), 6x coffee or tea in the afternoon, 7x 3-course-dinner

Arrival/ departure/ parking: 

  • Public car park near the pier in Koblenz from approx. € 140,-/week and free commuter parking outside. From there you can take the public bus into the city. No reservation possible.
  • By train from Mainz to Koblenz in 1 hour, approx. € 25,- per person.
  • Embarkation from 4.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. | Disembarkation from 9.00 a.m

  • Upper deck cabins available from 1349 EUR p.p (twin), single on request
  • Single cabins are quoted for 1-bed cabins. If none are available, a twin for single use may be offered with a discount
  • 80 guests minimum
  • To bring your own bike is request only due to lack of space
  • Excursions- We offer a small excursion program that can be booked directly on board at the cruise director only. You will get a brief description together with your travel documents. Depending on the number of participants some excursions could be carried out in 2 languages (German/ English)
  • We recommend that you take out a travel health insurance with repatriation coverage as well as baggage, accident and travel cancellation insurances.
  • This trip is not suitable for guests with reduced mobility
  • Cycling is not mandatory

    Koblenz

    Individual arrival and embarkation at 4:00 pm. On the ship, you will be welcomed by your captain and crew and the tour management.

    Koblenz - Boppard, Cycle Tour approx. 22 km

    You begin your first cycle tour at the gate to the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, in the historic city of Koblenz. Surrounded by vineyards and castle ruins, cycle alongside the Rhine River in the direction of Boppard

  • Day 3

    Boppard - Oberwesel, Cycle Tour approx. 20 km

    From Boppard, start off for a cycle tour that leads along the Rhine to Oberwesel. On this short trip, you come by many scenic outposts from where you have the possibility to enjoy the varied landscape. From the bank of the river, the many fortresses and the legendary Loreley cliff offer a picturesque backdrop all along the way.

  • Day 4

    Oberwesel - Rüdesheim, Cycle Tour approx. 26 km

    Todays cycle tour starts in Oberwesel. Riding past slate cliffs and through thick forests, on your way you pass sights like the Pfalzgrafenstein Castle near Kaub and the Niederwald Monument before reaching todays destination, the wine town of Bingen. Here we suggest that you visit the world-famous Drosselgasse

  • Day 5

    Rüdesheim – Mainz, Cycle Tour approx. 30 km

    On this stretch, the Rhine River shows off again all of its beauty. On your way, you ride past Eltville am Rhein. The towns landmark, the Electoral Castle, is well worth a visit. Mainz, todays destination, is home to numerous impressive buildings. You may want to visit St Martin`s Cathedral, one of the proud imperial cathedrals in Germany, or the Electoral Palace. Lined with beautiful half-timbered buildings and wine taverns, pretty narrow lanes and marvellous squares like the Augustinerstraße and the Kirschgarten Square invite you for a stroll through the Old Town.

  • Day 6

    Mainz – Nierstein, Cycle Tour approx. 20 km / Boat Tour Nierstein – Worms

    A short leg of the journey with lots of time to indulge: directly alongside the Rhine, you cycle on the well-paved Rhine Cycle Route to Nierstein. With almost 1.000 hectares of vineyard surface area, Nierstein is the biggest wine-growing municipality on the Rhine. You may also want to visit the historic Old Town with its medieval market square and the noble houses. In the afternoon, enjoy the boat tour from Nierstein to Worms.

  • Day 7

    Worms – Nierstein, Cycle Tour approx. 40 km / Boat Tour Nierstein - Mainz

    Start off for today`s cycle tour in Worms, the city of the Nibelungs. On an extensive cycle tour alongside the bank of the Rhine River, you will have again the possibility to fall for the charms of the vineyards and to enjoy the scenery along the Rhine. Coming from the south, you cycle towards Nierstein, also referred to as the Riesling City. From there, your ship sets sail for Mainz.
