Stralsund to Berlin 8-day Bike & Barge tour (PR)
Gorgeous Baltic sea islands and the Oder river. You start this tour in Stralsund, which is an old Hanseatic city. You will go past Rügen with its famous chalk cliffs, Stettin in Poland where there is a lovely palace and in doing so you can enjoy the beauty of the Oder landscape by bike & boat. Your final destination on this tour is Berlin where in the Northern parts there are large forest areas. You will get there by going along the Oder-Havel canal via Schwedt, Eberswalde and Oranienburg.
What could be more beautiful than enjoying the passing landscape while on board and exploring a lot of interesting places and meeting some locals whilst getting to know the culture and nature? Discover the diversified flora and fauna of this unique river landscape, baroque palaces, redbrick Gothic and North German architecture.
You mainly cycle along traffic-free paths, country roads and tarmac bike paths as well as sandy fields and forest tracks. There will be shorter sections along main roads. The route is mainly flat but there are hills at times, sometimes steep. If you do not want to cycle, you can stay on board
Due to its size this is an ideal boat for cruises on river Oder. It offers a restaurant with homelike salon and has 49 cabins available. 42 twin-bed-cabins on the main deck, and 7 twin-bed-cabins on upper deck surcharge. All cabins have a size of about 10, 5 sqm and are equipped with shower/toilet, hairdryer, telephone, TV, safe (fee) and air-condition (windows cannot be opened). One of the two beds is a sofa during the day. All decks, also sun deck are reachable via stairs and a lift. The stairs are very steep (chair lift on passenger and sun deck, carrying capacity max. 100 kg)

Arrival in Stralsund
Individual arrival to Stralsund. Embarkation starts at 4pm. Maybe you have time to stroll through the old city, which is located on a small island. The city has a great past so you will see remarkable places of interest
Stralsund – Lauterbach – Peenemünde approx. 48 km
Today's bike tour will take you through Stralsund over the Rügen Dam to Gustow where there is a well-known village church. You will then go past Poseritz, Groß Schoritz, the birthplace of Ernst Moritz Arndt and Garz to Putbus. Tip: Don’t miss the famous circus. Classical buildings line this circular “square” where all the streets converge. Then it’s off to Lauterbach located to the southeast of Rügen Island. You will board the boat here. Departure to Usedom is at 6.30pm.
Lauterbach - Peenemünde – Wolgast approx. 16-20 km
Today you have plenty of time to explore Usedom Island. Tip: historical/technical museum in the former power plant or alternatively you choose the “beach-route” via Trassenheide and Zinnowitz. Afterwards you will cycle past Karlshagen Harbour and Zecherin to Wolgast, which is also known as the “Gateway to Usedom Island". The Medieval historic centre with its town hall and the Church of St. Petri are interesting sights and are worth a visit.
Wolgast – Szczecin, day of rest on board
Today you will spend all day on board. You will cross the expansive waters of the Bay of Szczecin (Oder Lagoon) and reach Szczecin, the green city on the mouth of the Oder and one of the largest ports on the Baltic Sea. The reconstructed castle of the dukes of Pomerania situated in the city’s historic centre is worth seeing.
Szczecin – Mescherin – Schwedt, bike tour, about 30 km
In the morning you will sail from Szczecin to Mescherin. Biking past Gartz you will bike through a part of a unique, cross-border nature reserve, the “Lower Oder Valley National Park” before reaching Schwedt, today’s destination.
Schwedt – Hohensaaten – Eberswalde approx. 32 km
In the morning you will move on by boat from Schwedt to Hohensaaten. You then cycle towards Niederfinow (ship lift – a tour is always possible) through the splendid landscape, passing by small hills, clearings and forests. The last section will be on the Treidel bike route along the Finow Canal to Eberswalde. In the heart of the city, in the Finow Canal, is the oldest working lock in Germany, which has been a technical monument since 1978.
Eberswalde – Oranienburg – Berlin approx. 38 km
In the morning you enjoy a boat ride to Oranienburg. Sightseeing tip: the Baroque castle with its park, museum and orangery. You then cycle along the well-signposted bike route, which will take you southwards through the Ruppin sea area to Berlin.
Departure from Berlin
Disembark after breakfast and then travel home as arranged by you.
