Ireland's Dingle Way 8-Day Self-Guided Walking Tour (Level 2)
Dingle simply is a unique world. Gorse and wild roses bloom throughout the area, their soft pink petals forming a colourful contrast to the deep blue of the Atlantic beyond. Your hike along the Dingle Way will take you to bustling fishing villages where, if you listen closely, you’ll hear the people playing traditional Irish music and speaking the Gaelic language – further enhancing the feeling of truly being immersed in Ireland. Dunquin is a sight to behold … the stage town has only a few solitary houses scattered over a wide area, eliciting the sensation of being on the edge of this Irish microcosm. Breathtaking views of the Blasket Islands just off the coast make this scene one of the most beautiful in the entire country. Finally, you’ll cross a pass at Ireland’s highest peak and arrive at the tiny harbour at Brandon Pier. In Dingle, you’re sure to experience a plethora of varied and stunningly beautiful worlds in just a few days.
This is a challenging tour, mainly due to the length of the stages. The only significant altitude gain is experienced on the last day. Some of the paths are rocky and can be slippery in wet weather. Tarred side roads scattered throughout this long-distance hike, however, you can easily avoid the “worst” of these by taking the bus or a transfer. Good physical conditioning is mandatory, and you’ll need to be surefooted for the descent from the pass on day 7. As you’ll repeatedly meet shepherds with dogs along the way, hiking with dogs is not permitted on this tour.
