Scotland is famous for many things, Edinburgh castle and the Edinburgh Tattoo being the most popular, as well as the production of Scotch whisky. Scottish history has many famous figures, from Bonnie Prince Charlie to Robert the Bruce and Mary Queen of Scots. The Highlands are often portrayed as a romantic part of Scotland. This is not at all strange given the stunning unspoilt nature with rugged mountains, deep blue lochs and empty glens where majestic red deer rule the hills and eagles rule the skies. Due to the ever and fast changing weather the Highlands have a mystical touch. One moment you see the hills, the next they are gone. Scotland's islands are rare lands of farming, fishing and fairly bleak landscapes, the Isle of Skye and the Hebrides being the most well known. This is a great place for a sail and bike tour. The Caledonian canal and famous lochs such as Loch Lomond and Loch Ness are also surrounded by sometimes rugged rocky outcrops and stone castles, and at other times, rolling green hills, heather and bracken.
