Discover the Vía Verde del Aceite and the countryside by bike. Being the longest in Andalusia with 128 kilometres, this proposal is ideal for discovering the Vía Verde del Aceite by bike, one of the most important routes in the country. With its 13 impressive metal viaducts as its flagship, it crosses the provinces of Jaén and Córdoba accompanied by wonderful views of olive groves. A smooth and pleasant trip that will take you to discover the typical landscapes of the countryside and discover its fabulous gastronomy.

Arrival in Jaén.
Today will be the day to get to know the city of Jaén, before starting the bike trip. It will be worth getting to know Jaén, it has a vast historical and cultural heritage, such as its imposing baroque cathedral or the 11th century Arab baths.
Jaén – Alcaudete/ Zuheros 49km
After a good breakfast, we will begin our itinerary parallel to the train tracks. We will advance among the more than 66 million olive trees in the province of Jaén, the largest olive grove in the world, and we will glimpse the mountains of the Sierra de la Grana and the Pico de Jabalcuz, occasionally crossing the Archaeological Route of Los Torreones, where there are up to 7 fortifications resulting from the remains of war between Christians and Muslims in the Peninsula.
Then the path will begin a gentle and constant descent, an ancient garden converted into a surprising forest that has been declared a Natural Monument. The Green Route then enters the Caballico Tunnel, 333 metres long, after which the usual olive grove environment will be restored with a gentle descent. Shortly afterwards, the first metal viaducts that characterise the Vía Verde del Aceite will appear. After going through a tunnel of about 120 metres, we will arrive at Torredonjimeno, whose historic centre has been recognised as a Site of Cultural Interest.
Alcaudete/Zuheros – Doña Mencía 31 km
Today you will continue cycling to Doña Mencía. Along the green route you will pass through Laguna Honda, a nature reserve. A few kilometres away you will cross the “Arroyo La Jamputa” Viaduct and the “Rio Guadajoz” viaduct, which separates both provinces (Jaén and Córdoba). Continuing the stage we will arrive at Luque, a small town that has rebuilt the old railway buildings to use them as services, such as a shop or restaurant.
Finally, before reaching our destination, you can stop to rest in Zuheros, declared one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. Its viaduct is an important work of railway engineering from the 19th century. A metal structure 104 metres long.
Doña Mencía – Puente Genil 45km
We will resume our itinerary by entering a gentler section and passing by the old railway sheds until we reach the Plantío Tunnel, 139 metres above sea level, and the Sima viaduct. With a landscape dominated by holm oaks, carob trees and hawthorns with white flowers and red fruits, we will find ourselves almost in the geographical centre of Andalusia, arriving at Cabra, a town with countless historical vestiges that are reflected in its traditions and spectacular architecture. compounds. We will recover the prominence of the olive tree as we advance towards Lucena, historically known as “the Pearl of Sefarad”
The stage will end with the arrival at Puente Genil, a town full of heritage and must-see attractions.
Puente Genil - Écija 45km
In this fourth stage you will continue the route cycling along the banks of the Cabra - Genil Canal, and then head to the banks of the Genil River. Today the landscape will have changed compared to the previous days, as you enter the driest area with the most varied crops, the Campiña Cordobesa, a very charming landscape full of charming little towns. Ending the route in Écija, a city with a lot of historical, artistic and cultural heritage.
Écija - Córdoba 55km
In this last stage we will cycle from the province of Seville to Córdoba, between cereal fields and olive groves. Crossing the El Hecho park, where the citizens celebrate their Romería de San Isidro. Later, following the route we will arrive at the only tunnel on the route, and at the Tablas de Córdoba station. Following a zigzag route along hills with almond plantations, we will reach the most beautiful part of this stage on the banks of the Guadalquivir and Guadajoz rivers. Finally, via the Miraflores Bridge, we will cross the Guadalquivir River to enter Córdoba and end this fantastic adventure next to the Mosque.
