Zurich
On arrival in Switzerland you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel in Zurich. After checking in there will be a brief orientation just prior to hopping on a train to the city centre to take in the sights of this beautiful city - the largest in Switzerland. You'll then take a ferry ride down the winding River Limmat through the city and out onto Lake Zurich. Following on from the ferry ride you'll walk from the lake into the city to see 3 major cathedrals - Grossmunster, Fraumunster, and St.Peters. From there you'll head to the top of Lindenhof Hill to take in the views of the city. The quaint back streets of Zurich will offer a glimpse into the local community and cultural life of the city. The first day ends with a dinner together followed by a stroll down the famous Bahnhofstrasse.
St Gallen – Konstanz - Zurich
After breakfast you will again hop on a train, this time headed for Eastern Switzerland and Konstanz, Germany. The first stop will be the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage city of St.Gallen where you can take a leisurely stroll through this amazing city so rich in history. You will visit the famous Abbey Library of Saint Gallus with a treasure of books dating back to the 8th century. After visiting St.Gallen you'll head to the historical city of Konstanz, Germany. This lakeside city gives you an opportunity to cross the border for the day and take in some real German culture. Konstanz has been a city since the first century A.D. The Old Town part is one of Konstanz’s main attractions and is home to several magnificent cathedrals. The beautiful art and architecture that is found throughout the city is just amazing. After a history-rich day in Germany you'll head back to Zurich for dinner.
Bern - Thun
Today we will say "goodbye" to the big city of Zurich and head into the Alps of the Berner Oberlands. Our first stop will be Bern, the capital city of Switzerland. This will be a busy day taking in all the beautiful sights Bern has to offer - the Parliament building, Kindlifresser Fountain, Switzerland's largest Cathedral - Zytglock, The Aare River and the Bear viewing area. For those of you who are a little more adventurous you can join the locals and jump into the Aare River that runs directly through the city center. Next, you will board the train and head to the city of Thun. This medieval city nestled between the Alps and Lake Thun will surely take your breathe away! Wooden bridges, flower lined windows, and a huge castle will be sweep you back in time. For many who have taken this tour, the city of Thun has quickly become a favorite. After visiting Thun you will head back to the hotel for a tasty Swiss dinner.
Lake Thun – Spiez - Oberhofen
Today you will start the day with a trip up the famous Schynige Platte cogwheel trail. This train ride is a very nostalgic one because it is a reminder of what some of the first Alpine trains were like to ride. The view from the top offers a spectacular vantage point of both the towering big three Alps and the lakes below. Superb! After our visit to Schynige Platte you'll take a stroll through Interlaken and stop for a quick lunch and then head to Lake Thun. Here you'll visit either The Castle of Oberhofen or The Castle of Spiez depending on time allotment. The beautiful lake nestled below the Alps is a stunning emerald green in colour and definitely creates the perfect Alpine scene. After your visit to the lake and castles you'll head back to Wengen for a delicious dinner together. Afterwards feel free to stroll and shop around the village of Wengen.
Lauterbrunnen - Gimmelwald - Stechelberg.
Today it's all aboard the BOB train headed for the village of Lauterbrunnen in the famous UNESCO World Heritage site of Lauterbrunnen Valley. Here you'll take a cable car ride to the cliff side village of Murren where you can take a leisurely stroll through this car-less village perched atop the Alps. You'll then take another cable car trip down to the village of Gimmelwald. Those who are willing and daring enough can participate in a hike from the top of Murren to the next station of Gimmelwald where you'll visit a small cheese factory and sample some local Swiss-made Alp Cheese. There is also an opportunity to enjoy the views of the Alps from Europe's highest train station - The Jungfraujoch. The final cable car ride will take you from Gimmelwald down the cliff side to the valley floor into the village of Stechelberg. From there you'll take a leisurely scenic trip back to our accommodation. After a delicious dinner together the evening will be yours to enjoy at your own leisure.
Village of Zermatt & Matterhorn.
You are off to one of the most famous Swiss Alps attractions - The Matterhorn. You'll leave early in the morning on a train heading through the beautiful mountain pass south, towards Italy, arriving in the village of Zermatt which is set at the foot of the mighty Matterhorn. You'll board the famous cogwheel Gornergrat train that will take you slowly up the mountain side offering unparalleled views of the Matterhorn. From the top viewing deck enjoy lunch and take in the beautiful surrounding scenery. Following lunch, it's back onboard the Gornergrat Cogwheel train and back to the village of Zermatt. On the way down there will be an option for hiking for those who enjoy that activity. Back in the village you'll walk through Zermatt and learn more about this old farming village. It is becoming one of the world’s most sought after vacation resorts. In the evening join the others for another delicious Swiss dinner and enjoyable conversations.
Grindelwald, Switzerland.
Today take a stroll through this quaint Alpine village which offers views of the Eiger mountain and two large glaciers. Absoutely breathaking! There will be the opportunity to do some souvenir shopping or you can opt to go down an Alpine Slide, ride a trotti bike, or take a Zip line down a mountain side. All loads of fun! After a fun day spent together you'll head back to the hotel for dinner.
Berner Oberlands - Zurich
Today you'll say goodbye to the Berner Oberlands and make your way back to Zurich via the city of Luzern, Switzerland. This charming Swiss city, located in the heart of Switzerland, is considered one of the most beautiful cities - it will take your breath away. You'll take the famous Golden Pass Train from Interlaken to Luzern. This is a two hour train ride that is stunningly beautiful and not to be missed. After arriving in Luzern you'll visit the Chapel Bridge, The Lions Monument, several cathedrals and lastly take in the spectacular Lake Luzern. Your day ends with dinner.
Zurich
Say our goodbye to Switzerland as we catch a morning Shuttle bus to the airport.
