Stage 1 (optional) - Arrival and shuttle in Elaia
When you arrive at Athens airport, our guides will be there to welcome you and take you to your hotel in Elaia. The hotel is just a few steps from the sea, offering a peaceful place to rest and start your trip. There is also an optional ride today. If you like, we can drive you to Gytheio where you can begin cycling towards Elaia. The route takes you across to the other side of the Laconic Gulf and follows the beautiful coastline of the southern Peloponnese. You’ll pass through small villages and enjoy great views of the sea. This is a nice way to see Gytheio and stretch your legs after the trip. Your luggage will be waiting for you at the hotel when you arrive.
Stage 2 - From Elaia to Neapoli
This stage includes the route from Elaia to Neapoli, which crosses the other half of the Laconic Gulf. The terrain features a mix of rolling hills and a notable climb – just to add some spice to your day and make the descent even sweeter. A special highlight is Elafonisos Island, home to Greece's finest sandy beach. During summer, the ferry to Elafonisos is highly convenient, departing every 30 minutes and taking a brief 10 minutes. This excursion is a once-in-a-lifetime experience not to be missed. After your island adventure, your final stop is Neapoli, where you will spend the night
Stage 3 - From Neapoli to Monemvasia
Beginning from Neapoli, your bike ride leads towards the enchanting village of Monemvasia. The road from Neapoli unfolds along the stunning coastline, presenting spectacular views of the sea. The Day 03 route concludes to Monemvasia, a small, historical town located on a massive rock off the east coast of the Peloponnese in Greece, accessible only by a causeway from the mainland. Renowned for its medieval fortress, narrow streets, and Byzantine churches, it offers a journey back in time, encapsulated within its imposing walls and stunning views of the Aegean Sea. Make sure to visit the castle of Monemvasia, one of Europe's longest continually-inhabited fortified cities.
Stage 4 - From Monemvasia to Kyparissi
Past Monemvasia, the route guides you to a unique climb, distinct from your earlier experiences, where the serene atmosphere offers a moment of tranquility and a deep connection with nature's unadorned beauty. Kyparissi, nestled in a small bay at the base of the Parnon mountains, is a haven of peace, distinct from the more frequented tourist destinations.
Stage 5 - From Kyparissi to Leonidio
This route is a classic ride for cyclists as it combines all those elements to compose an ideal day on the bike. Skip the morning coffee because soon after starting from Kyparissi you will reach Fokianos beach, a small hidden paradise with just a couple of cafeterias serving the few visitors. As the phone service is very limited there, let yourself travel back in time, in an era the life was simpler. A final uphill stretch and a refreshing descent concludes the day between the mountains surrounding Leonidio. If your legs are still fresh, in the GPS file we have added an optional climb, promising a unique view of the area from the top.
Stage 6 - From Leonidio to Paralio Astros
For this cycling day you roll along the coast to Paralio Astros, a picturesque coastal town in the Peloponnese region of Greece, known for its beautiful beaches, a medieval castle, and a lively waterfront lined with cafes and tavernas. It's a popular destination that blends natural beauty with historical charm, offering panoramic views of the Aegean Sea and a rich cultural experience.
Stage 7 - From Paralio Astros to Nafplio
For the last cycling day you continue to roll along the coast line to Nafplio, known for its picturesque streets, historic Venetian architecture, and waterfront views. Once the first capital of modern Greece, it features notable landmarks like Palamidi Fortress and Bourtzi island fortress. During your ride you will through a few points of interest, like the 2500 years old olive tree before Astros city and the wetlands of Nafplio where flamingos can been seen flying.
