Grimselpass - Meiringen – Iseltwald, approx. 50km

Transfer up to the Grimselpass in the morning. A strange mountain landscape of opposites: Reservoirs and power plants surrounded by icy green-gray granite mountains – a balance act for your eyes. Steep descent to the Aare valley and onwart to Meiringen and the Sherlock Holmes museum. A short breather, because at the shore of the Lake of Brienz there is another hill to cross before reaching your stage goal of Iseltwald.

Iseltwald – Interlaken - Thun – Bern, approx. 45km

The deep Lake of Brienz, clear, quiet and sombre. The Lake of Thun, shallower, open and lively. In the middle, Interlaken, a trendy tourist and adventure centre. Dominated by those icy icons, the Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau. By ship to Thun, the gateway to the Oberland, the wide Aaretal: large villages, industry, open fields and a powerful river in lush water meadows. Enter the capital city of Bern, UNESCO World Heritage.

Bern – Biel, approx. 50km

Perfect trio at Wohlensee: bird paradise, power station and nuclear reactor. Follow the Aare into Seeland, a giant vegetable garden thanks to the Hagneckkanal. Behind reeds and woodland, the Bielersee hints at the happy hustle and bustle in bilingual Biel-Bienne.

Biel – Solothurn, approx. 30km

"Child" of the Jura waters correction: the Nidau-Büren canal and the Häftli loop. The Witi, dry, where hares and storks gather. Nearby, the sluggish meandering Aare. In the distance, the towers of St. Ursen Cathedral announce the baroque town of Solothurn.

Solothurn – Aarau, ca. 60km

The so-called “ambassadors city” Solothurn is considered to be the most beautiful Baroque city of Switzerland, where Italian Grandezza mixes with French charme and Swiss groundedness. From here, follow the Aare . Aarau, capital of the Canton Aargau in the Swiss Mittelland, is located at the river Aare where city and Canton get their name from.
