Turkey's Lycian Coast 8-day Bike and Boat Tour

We spend a week discovering the Lycian coast from Gocek to Bodrum with a three-masted motor yacht. Our charming and stylish floating hotel is built to the highest standards. We get to know the Turkish coast and back-country with the aid of a bike. Our tour guide points out the unique natural wonders and historical cities which grace the area, allowing us to be transported back in time. Admire the famous rock cut tombs of Dalyan, which were carved into stone between 4 and 2 B.C. by the Lycian coastal inhabitants, or let yourself be mesmerized by the breathtaking Saklikent Canyon. Spend your evenings in the deserted bays and let yourself be rocked to sleep by the ocean or make the most of the pulsating night life in the port cities and their many cafes and bars.

Accommodation:

(Deluxe)- The 42 x 8.40 m Turkish gullet is a true eye catcher with its three towering masts. The boat offers 15 spacious and climate controlled guest cabins with tiled bathrooms and separate shower cabins and toilet. The large saloon is tastefully decorated and includes a bar where you can order a refreshing beverage. The vast ships decks provide shaded and sunny areas to relax with plenty of comfortable seating areas and sunning mattresses

Tour character: Level 3:

The trip along the Lycian Coast belongs to the most challenging of the program. The day-tours average 40 km and take you through partly hilly and mountainous terrain. There will also be extended climbs where walking your bike is of course permitted. Most of the roads are asphalted. You can set aside a whole or half-day for swimming or relaxing on board the boat whenever you want. Helmet use is mandatory on all bike tours. You are strongly encouraged to bring your own (well-fitted) helmet. Bike helmets are available on board in limited number (on request).

Bringing Children:

We believe that only children in a good physical condition and of a minimum age of 10 and previous bicycle tour experience are able to master the bike-tours on their own strength. Please note that the minimum height for the bikes we provide is 4.6 ft. (1.50 m)

Catering:

The on-board chef is a member of the crew and will prepare breakfast and one warm meal daily. The catering starts with dinner on embarkation day and ends with breakfast on disembarkation day.

Internet availability:

There is no WiFi connection onboard. If you need to connect to the internet during the tour, we recommend to take your portable electronic device to a cafe or bar somewhere in the harbour. Free WiFi is on offer almost everywhere. If you order something to eat or drink, then you are able to use the WiFi to your hearts content.

This tour is conducted bilingually, in English and German.

  • Day 1

    Göcek (Embarkation)

Individual arrival by plane to Dalaman Airport and transfer to Göcek (approx. 1 h). Check-in on board starts at 2 pm. Take the afternoon to stroll through the lively harbour town. The week begins with dinner on board.

  • Day 2

Göcek – Saklikent Canyon – Gemiler Bay (aprx. 27 km/17 mi.)

A bus transfers (60 min) takes us to Cavdir, the starting point of today’s cycling tour. From here we bike to the Saklikent Canyon, where we can enjoy lunch on the riverbank. In Turkish “Saklikent” means “Hidden City”. The canyon is spectacular and can easily be explored on foot. Afterwards we continue our cycling tour to Kadiköy. From here, a short transfer takes us to the ancient town of Tlos which was once one of the largest towns in Lycia. After visiting the historic site the shuttle bus takes us to Gemiler Bay, where we board the boat off the coast of Gemiler Island – also known as St. Nikolaus Island due to the church constructed here in his name in the 5th Centuary.

  • Day 3

Gemiler Bay – Fethiye – Sarsala Bay (aprx. 33 km/21 mi.)

In the morning we cycle through a pine forest to the 1922 abandoned Greek city of Kayaköy, once home to 6,500 people. From here we continue our bike ride to Fethiye where we have the chance to extend our tour by a few kilometres: a small peninsula nearby tempts with its quiet bays and beautiful beaches, perfect for a picturesque swim stop. Alternatively we can spend the time exploring the city of Fethiye with its local bazar. The old town, marked by the Eski Cami Mosque is also worth a visit, with its narrow, winding alleyways and the typical corner houses. Back on board, the boat takes us to Sarsala Bay where we spend a peaceful night on anchor.

  • Day 4

Sarsala Bay – Dalaman – Dalyan (aprx. 42 km/26 mi.)

After breakfast we cross the fertile Dalaman plains with its cotton fields and orchards before taking a well-deserved break in a tea house in Dalaman. We then cycle on through a small pass to the estuarial area of the Dalyan delta, where we have lunch in a charming restaurant. From here it’s only a few more kilometres to Dalyan. A small boat takes us passed the impressive rock-cut tombs and the Dalyan delta to our ship, which waits on anchor near a small rocky island.

  • Day 5

Kaunos – Ekincik – Ciftlik Bay (aprx. 31 km/19 mi.)

After breakfast the boat brings us close to the ancient city of Kaunos, the first destination of today’s bike tour. Once directly on the seaside and an important port town, the harbour now lies 8km from the coast. Only the ruins are silent witnesses of the former wealth of the city. After visiting the site, we continue on by bike to the shores of Lake Köycegiz, where we have the opportunity to enjoy a healing mud bath close to Sultaniye. After crossing another small pass with fantastic views we finally reach the tiny fishermen’s village of Ekincik, where we board the boat and spend the night in the bay of Ciftlik.

  • Day 6

Çiftlik – Serçe Limanı – Datça (aprx. 49 km/30 mi.)

A secluded mountain road takes us to a mountain village located at 300m above sea level, home to a 1,500-year-old plane tree and a lively bazar that is well worth a visit. A short walk around the plane tree is said to ensure a long and lucky life. After lunch we continue to a small bay at the peak of the Bozburun Peninsula. From there we cross over to Datca, the capital of the peninsula of the same name. The evening can be spent wandering through the lively harbour town.

  • Day 7

    Datça – Knidos (aprx. 42 km/26 mi.)

Today’s bike tour leads us along the Datça peninsula. The first ascent takes us to a height of 450m before we head back down to the sea. On a clear day it is possible to see the Greek islands Nissyros, Tilos and Rhodes. A scenic road leads first along the coast and then through more rural areas, before taking us to Knidos. After visiting the impressive archaeological site, we stay in one of the most picturesque bays on the Turkish coast.

  • Day 8

    Knidos – Yali Ciftlik (Disembarkation)

In the morning we cross over from Knidos to Bodrum. Check-out after breakfast. On request collective group transfer to the airport and individual return home or extended stay in Turkey.

We reserve the right to make alterations to the itinerary, depending on wind and weather conditions or organizational requirements. Sometimes the tour will be conducted in inverse order. You will find further details in your booking information packet.
