Mont Blanc & Alps 7-day Small Group Tour
Fabulous Mont Blanc in the French Alps is the base for this 7-day tour around the land of lakes, mountains and vineyards. An unusual voyage, with rare and unique moments discovering the 'terroir' around the famous Mont Blanc through three countries - France, Switzerland and Italy.
Geneva – Montreux (Switzerland)
Meeting in Geneva at 11 am for the briefing and the presentation. Lunch in a typical restaurant on the Geneva Lake shores. We then go to the Lavaux vineyard terraces, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Small hike and wine tasting at a in-house selected vineyard with a beautiful view over the mountains and the Geneva Lake.
Montreux – Saillon-les-Bains (Switzerland)
Visit of the fascinating Château de Chillon, which has a very important place in the history of the former Duchy and Realm of Savoie. Then, we take the charming cog railway that ascends more than 1,600 m on a magnificent journey through fields, villages and forests. The view from the summit of Rochers-de-Naye is simply stunning, overlooking Lake Geneva and the Vaud, Valais, Bern and even French Alps. Lunch in a panoramic restaurant built into the cliff face. We continue the journey toward the thermal city of Saillon-les-Bains where we spend the night. You can relax as the complex offers a unique thermal experience with several heated pools, a thermal river, spas and saunas.
Saillon-les-Bains – Col du Gd St Bernard - Courmayeur (Switzerland - Italy)
This morning, we visit the worlds smallest vineyard which has only 3 vines on a surface of 1,618 sqm. La Vigne à Farinet is owned by the Dalai Lama. We visit it walking on a pretty, and easy to walk on footpath. We then have a typical lunch in a familial brasserie. Afterwards we go to the famous Col du Grand St Bernard, at 2473m, on the border between Switzerland and Italy (Val d’Aoste). There we visit the hospice du Grand St Bernard and see the famous St Bernard dogs. Descend into the Val d’Aoste to arrive at our cosy hotel in Courmayeur, emblematic resort at the foot of the Mont-Blanc.
Courmayeur – Chamonix Mont-Blanc (Italy – France)
Free time in Courmayeur and visit of the Mont-Blanc wine cellar, which make Europe’s highest cultivated wine. Nicola, the oenologist, explains and shows us the uniqueness of his altitude vines. After the tasting, we embark on the new and incredible Helbronner Skyway cable car, with its 360° pivoting cabins, to get us into the heart of the Massif du Mont-Blanc glaciers. We have our lunch at 2400m in a gastronomic restaurant, with the spectacular views over the Val d’Aoste and the glaciers. After lunch, we continue to the Helbronner peak at 3466m (a truly unique moment!). Descent toward Courmayeur then wo go to the French side of Mont-Blanc in Chamonix. Free time in the resort of Chamonix. Mountaineer dinner and night in our centrally located hotel.
Chamonix – Combe de Savoie - Chartreuse National Park - Chambéry (France)
We start our day by a visit of an emblematic alpine pasture in Megève. Cheese tasting at the farm with the Cheese maker. Then we go to the Combe de Savoie, close to Albertville, the town that hosted the 1992 Winter Olympic Games. A stop off in a famous vineyard, at the foot of the Massif des Bauges for a wine tasting that includes rare varieties of wines, some forgotten. Typical lunch in a Savoyard Inn and visit of Notre Dame de Myans, a rare site (only one church like this one throughout the world), born from the famous Mont Granier landsliding in 1248. We reach the Col du Granier dominated by the mythic mountain of the same name. We can study the impressive north face and the summits of the Chartreuse Natural Park. We then reach Chambéry, former capital of the Duchy of Savoy, to discover its medieval streets, the “quatre sans culs” emblematic fountain and the castle of the Dukes of Savoy. Dinner in the old town and night in an ancient convent converted into a hotel in 1801 that combines elegance and warmth.
Chambéry – Lac du Bourget – Annecy (France)
This morning we go to the Lac du Bourget, the place was dear to the 19’ century romantic poet Alphonse de Lamartine. We will visit the Abbaye de Hautecombe, burial place of former Princes and members of the House of Savoy. This is a highly spiritual place, surrounded by magical views, it is totally isolated between the lake and the mountains. Lunch in a charming village on the shores of the Canal de Savière. We continue the journey in Annecy, also called the “Little Venice of the Alps”. Visit and free time to walk through its medieval streets and lanes. Then in a private boat, we sail on the Annecy Lake, the purest waters in Europe. Dinner and night spent being soothed by the magic of the lake
Annecy – Geneva (France – Switzerland)
After breakfast, we go to Geneva where our journey ends. Please note: The program can change and be adjusted according to the weather conditions and the wine makers’ disposal.
