Each tour offers a range of activities and visits, from castles to art galleries, quaint picturesque villages with old churches, to stunning views of mountains and lakes. Local cuisine at good restaurants, wine-tasting, village markets, architecture and artisan crafts are just some of the discoveries and pleasures you will experience.
Many activities, boat trips, half-day bike rides, canoe or kayak are often options during each week-long tour, or you may choose to spend half a day shopping or relaxing at a beach or your hotel swimming pool. Accommodation is a range of 3 and 4 star, often in places you may not be able to visit without a private vehicle. Some 3 star accommodation is in castles/chateaux where the heritage protection does not allow lifts to be installed, so 3 star is the highest rating permitted. Although baggage is always taken care of, you may find yourself climbing up and down some magnificent old stairways! Check each tour before booking. Most small group tours have breakfast included each day, plus lunches and evening meals as specified in each individual tour.
Leisurely pace, comfortable vehicles, flexible itineraries, small groups. Transport is either in a small comfortable vehicle. Some tours ues public transport when it is the best way to travel. You will likely be with the group, escorted, on a train or local flight. (e.g. in Switzerland the trains have much better views than road travel). Tours are fully guided with guides speaking English and the local language.
On many small group tours, around half the guests are solo travellers, so if you are concerned about travelling on your own, this is one of the best ways to settle in and feel a part of the group. With smaller numbers, it is much easier to get to know your fellow guests.
