Lake Garda Self-Guided Cycling Tour (Level 2)

Welcome to a cycle tour which will stimulate both, your soul and your senses: high art and culture in the cities of Trento, Verona, Brescia, and Mantua – not only the Renaissance palaces of the city of Romeo and Juliet invite you to stay, also the cathedral square in Trento and the antique forum in Brescia will enchant you. Enjoy the atmosphere of the Piazza Sordello in Mantua. Lake Garda, a blue-green emerald, invites you to relax on its banks or to cool off in its refreshing waters. Or you relax while drinking a glass of wine, since in this region some of the most famous Italian wines are grown. Valpolicella, Lambrusco, Bardolino, Lugana…as we said…”dolce vita“.
An impressive location is characteristic for the hotel. The historic centre of Desenzano is only a few minutes’ walk away. All the rooms we book come with a lake view and the hotel is equipped with a beautifully designed pool - at your disposal. The host family Ferrari and their staff will charm you with their special kindness.
The route is flat to slightly hilly. You will cycle on bike trails, side roads and sometimes on country lanes. Only short sections have to be cycled on roads with more traffic, especially when entering or leaving cities.

Arrival in Desenzano
Desenzano is a lively town on the southern shore of Lake Garda. Discover the picturesque old town, the elegant waterfront promenade, charming alleys, and inviting squares. A special highlight is the harbor with ist colorful boats, this is the best place to enjoy the typical Mediterranean way of life.
Trip to Salo approx. 55km
From Desenzano, you’ll cycle through a varied landscape of vineyards and orchards toward Moniga and Manerba. Time and again, there are charming views of Lake Garda before reaching the picturesque port town of Salò. Take some time for a relaxing break and enjoy the lively promenade. Afterward, beautiful paths lead through the gentle hills of the region back to Desenzano.
Trip to Verona approx. 55km + train ride
From Desenzano, you´ll cycle over rolling hills, past cypress trees and vineyards, toward Verona. The city of Romeo and Juliet captivates visitors with its magnificent Renaissance palaces, the impressive Roman Arena, and its many lively squares. In the afternoon, you’ll take the train back to Desenzano.
Trip into the history of Italy approx. 35km
Cycle along quiet paths through vineyards, peach orchards, and kiwi plantations toward Solferino. This historic town is closely associated with the famous “Battle of Solferino,” which is considered a Major step toward the unification of Italy. After a detour into the past, the route leads back to Lake Garda, taking you through the growing region of the crisp Lugana wines.
Trip to Garda. 50km + boat ride
You’ll cycle through gently rolling hills to the banks of the Mincio. The river takes you to the historic fortress of Peschiera and to the lake
later, you’ll cycle back into the countryside. Through apple orchards and the vineyards of Bardolino, you’ll return to the shore, which you’ll follow under shady pine trees all the way to the charming lakeside town of Garda. To round off the day in style, enjoy a leisurely boat ride across the lake back to Desenzano.
Trip to the landscape of Valtenesi approx. 50km
First, you’ll cycle along the shore of Lake Garda, accompanied by breathtaking views of the sparkling water. As you head toward Cavalgese di Riviera, a varied hilly landscape unfolds, featuring olive groves, cypress trees, gentle moraine hills, and the Chiaretto and Groppello wine-growing regions. The bike path follows the Naviglio Grande Bresciano canal and then winds gently back down to the lake
