Burgundy Beaune-Macon 7-day Self-guided Cycling Tour Level 1
From Beaune to Macon, Burgundy is a fabulous region for a cycling tour, quiet roads, nice accommodation, many vineyards and domaines to sample wine and great gastronomy. On this cycle holiday you will cycle through some lovely typical French towns such as Givry, Santenay, Puligny-Montrachet, Pommard and many more. You will also benefit from the peace of the cycle track, the “Green Way” and you will appreciate the natural beauty of this area.
Easy biking in nearly flat landscape, maybe some minor hills on some days. Biking experience: You have already cycled for a half-day or a day.
Distance: Between 15 - 30km a day. You will mostly cycle on cycle paths, asphalt vineyards roads, countryside roads – no traffic roads.

Arrival in Beaune
Arrival in Beaune a lovely town in the middle of the vineyards. Overnight stay in a 3 hotel. Hospices de Beaune visit is a must to get introduced in Burgundy atmosphere. For children (or adult as well) possibility of a fun visit of Mustard factory. Overnight stay in a 3 hotel.
Beaune visits or a loop ride [+380 m / -381 m]
There are so many things to do in Beaune, that it won’t be too much to stay here another day. Hospices de Beaune visit is a must to get introduced in Burgundy atmosphere. For children (or adult as well) possibility of a fun visit of Mustard factory. Or for those who came for cycling, there will be some loop rides suggested, (Options 40km OR 30). Overnight stay in a 3* hotel.
Beaune - Chassey le Camp: ~25km [+340 m / -246 m]
After Breakfast, you will start your bike ride through the vineyards on a bike path passing through wine making villages: Pommard, Volnay, and the Grands crus vineyards (Montrachet, Batard Montrachet...). Many wine tasting options all along the way until Santenay. Then a short portion of the cycling path alongside the canal, before you reach your destination situated at the beginning of the Cote Chalonnaise. Your hotel offers outside swimming pool and inside pool!
Chassey le Camp - Dracy Le Fort: ~25km [+126 m / -242 m]
After breakfast, you will cycle through small countryside routes to join another cycling track alongside the “Canal du Centre” to reach Chagny, pass near Rully (wine maker village) and Chalon Sur Saone area. Dracy Le Fort is a small village on the border of the Côte Chalonnaise vineyards. Overnight stay in a 3* hotel with swimming pool.
Dracy le Fort - Cluny: ~44km [+229 m / -188 m]
After breakfast, you will join the “Green Way » in Givry (wine making village producing favourite red wine of the French king Henri IV). This bike path is built on an ancient rail line which was the first bike path of France. You will appreciate the peaceful and lovely roman architecture in Buxy, St Gengoux Le National, Malay. Arrive in Cormatin, perfect place to have lunch and have a visit of the castle before you head up to Cluny. The Abbey of Cluny and the stud farm will be another must visit. Overnight stay in a 3* hotel.
Cluny - Macon: ~ 28km [+244 m / -305 m]
After breakfast you will get back on the cycling path to ride until Macon. The landscape starts to be hillier even if your ride on the easy cycling path. On the road the Castle of Berze Le Chatel is such a romantic place to visit, the lovely view from the road will invite you to do a detour for a short visit. You will also cross the longest European tunnel open for cyclist and continue the ride through the val Lamartinien with gorgeous view of the Solutre Rock. Overnight in a 3* hotel in Macon.
Departure
After breakfast, possibility to return by train to Beaune. OR get a fast train (TGV) directly from Macon to Paris.
